Saline Middle School Points of Pride
Saline Middle School established its School Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Motto this past year.
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Kinder Than Necessary
Saline Middle School offers students an opportunity to be involved academically and athletically. Furthermore, it gives students an opportunity be involved in the arts. Saline Area Schools also offers staff a tremendous opportunity to grow professionally.
During the 2015-16 school year, Reading Interventions were implemented for students for fluency, comprehension and phonics. As school administrators, we were supportive of the interventions for students and provided a schedule that would allow them to take place. The presentation, developed by Kristin O'Keefe and Lisa York, provides examples on the success of the SMS Reading Interventions.
Professional Development Leadership
I was proud to be a member of the TRIG team last year. TRIG, an acronym that stands for Technology Readiness Infrastructure Grant, was a Professional Development opportunity for our teachers to learn about applications and web sites that could enhance digital instruction in the classroom. This year, our Professional Development centered around the 4 C's of learning and department time focused on PBLs, Next-Gen Science Standards, and Curriculum alignment.
Mstep
Another undertaking last year as the Assistant Principal was the role of Building Coordinator for the MSTEP test. This new endeavor challenged us in creating a schedule that was conducive to learning while fulfilling the state requirements. It also exemplified how important it is to work as a team. Our extraordinary technology department was an integral part of making the test run smoothly.
IMPORTANT DATA--STUDENT GROWTH
NWEA Data is one of several data points that we use at the Middle School. This year, our Intervention Team has introduced Aims-Web as a data point for use as a screener for Reading Intervention. This is the SMS Fall to Winter NWEA Growth Data:
At Saline Middle School, we not only teach core subjects, but we also try and educate the entire child. The students have seen and heard presentations on bullying/harassing, digital citizenship, social media and respect of others.
